Junior League's Food Truck Invasion

Monday, August 17, 2015

Members of the Junior League of Martin County were on hand at a recent Monday Night Food Truck Invasion at Stuart's Memorial Park, to raise awareness about a new project, Books for Kids.

The goal is to collect 1,000 books for each of five, first-year Martin County teachers, in order to equip their classrooms with their own libraries.

The project has been established with the help of Mary White, Director of Elementary Programs and School Improvement for the Martin County School District, who states, "It's essential for new teachers to have a full and rich library to help support student literacy."

Junior League Community Chair Leslie Haviland indicates that the program will initially benefit two kindergarten teachers, and one first, third and fifth grade teacher.

"This project will continue throughout the school year and we hope to help as many new teachers as we can," she said.

Because students read at different levels, Junior League is seeking donations of new and gently used books for grades K-7.

Donations are currently being accepted at The Zweben Law Group, 532 S.Colorado Ave., Stuart, or by calling 772-485-7169 to arrange a pick-up.

Junior League volunteers will again be on-hand at the Monday Night Food Truck Invasion at Memorial Park in Stuart on Aug. 17, 5:30-8:30 p.m., and at Barnes and Noble in Jensen Beach on Sat., Aug. 29, at 11:30 a.m.

The Junior League of Martin County is comprised of approximately 150 women, who promote volunteerism and effective leadership.

The next Members in Training Class will begin in September. For more information, jpolmed72@yahoo.com or visit JLMCFlorida.com.
