GERTRUDE WALDEN CHILD CARE CENTER PLAYGROUND DEDICATION
IN HONOR OF JUNIOR LEAGUE PAST PRESIDENT VAL WRIGHT

Stuart, FL– On Tuesday, May 14 at 4:15pm, the Sustainers of the Junior League of Martin County will dedicate the new playground they have built for the Gertrude Walden Child Care Center at 601 SE Lake Street in East Stuart. The women of the Junior League will dedicate this playground in memory of former Junior League President, Valerie Wright, who unexpectedly passed in November 2017. Mrs. Wright was dedicated to her volunteer service hours at the school.

The Mission at Gertrude Walden Child Care Center is to provide every child with a quality early childhood experience. The staff strives to create a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment which fosters individual needs. They view education as a partnership between parents and teachers. There are nearly 130 students who attend the school and their parents pay on a sliding scale basis. A waiting list is ever present as parents understand the environment which helps their children grow.

The Junior League of Martin County was started in 1992 and works to teach and promote voluntarism within its membership. As a part of the Association of the Junior Leagues International, the local league is a part of one of the oldest, largest and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing 140,000 women in 291 Leagues in four countries. This important work has won the JL dedicated community and corporate partners and loyal supporters for more than 117 years as well as an enduring legacy as the foremost provider of civic leadership training for women.

The May 14 event will begin with an introduction of Thelma Washington, director of the Gertrude Walden Child Care Center. Stuart attorney and husband of our honoree, Tim Wright, will speak about Val and her passion. There will be a dedication of books in memory of Val Wright for the school library and of course, the children will be there to show us how much they love their new playground!
